A trip to the roof of the world

Bhutan - Nepal

The journey takes us first to the magical Kathmandu Valley, our beautiful accommodation belongs to a Tibetan monastery and is located in the quiet part of Kathmandu, the Tibetan district of Boudanath. We are awakened by the chants of the monks and the sound of the mountain horns. From there we have only a 5 minute walk to the famous large stupa.
Hundreds of people, mainly Tibetans, meditate and pray here every day and chant the mantra "OM MANI PADME HUM" while circling the stupa. We will also start the day with a morning walk to the stupa and a little meditation.
Those who prefer to sleep in are welcome to do so. There are invitations and no peer pressure.
We move by bus and taxi through the sacred Kathmandu valley and visit an old cave in which Padmasambava was already meditating.
There is a rock nearby where the goddess Tara formed herself in the stone. Touching them is said to bring great happiness.
We visit an old yogi who lives high on a peak surrounded by the Himalayas in an old mud house and later explore the beautiful old city of Bhaktapur, which was unfortunately partially destroyed by the earthquake.
The end of February and the beginning of March, depending on the lunar calendar, is a very special night for the Hindus.
Once a year at a certain time of the moon, devotees of the god Shiva gather in the temple complex of Pashupatinath on the holy Bhagmati river.
It is said that Shiva resided there as the lord of the animals. If you stay up in one of these holy places that night, called the Mahashivaratri, and do not fall asleep, with a little luck you may encounter the god Shiva. We can experience that too.
One to two days are free.
There is the possibility to be pampered in an Ayurveda center. Buying gifts and souvenirs or just drifting away.
After 10 days we will fly together to Bhutan. This 50-minute flight route along the Himalayan giants is spectacular. The mountains are within reach and even Mount Everest becomes visible.
When we arrive in the Kingdom of Bhutan, we are warmly welcomed by our driver and guide Tashi. Tashi is a former monk who lived and studied in a Tibetan monastery for many years. He knows all the old stories and meanings of the monasteries and natural power places we will visit.
Together we will linger in these places, meditate or simply take in the atmosphere. There is also the possibility to visit a museum of handicrafts and traditional medicine.
The highlight in Bhutan will of course be a visit to the "Tiger's Nest". A Tibetan monastery high up on a cliff, about which there are many stories that we will learn.
The ascent takes about 4 hours and is manageable for everyone, some go slower, others faster. We plan to spend 2 nights in Thimpu, the capital of Bhutan, and 2 nights in Paro. Our physical well-being will be well taken care of.
